Chemnitz Adult Education Centre opens step by step
Launch of the digital science programme "vhs.wissen live" on 18 May
From Monday, 18 May, the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre will resume operations. The reopening of VHS Chemnitz is taking place in stages.
After the nine-week course break, staff are now preparing for the start of courses from Monday. "We will check for each course whether, when and under what conditions it can be continued or restarted and contact the participants and course leaders," says Grit Bochmann, Director of Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
Courses will start again on 2 June, beginning with integration and vocational language courses. Two weeks later, on 15 June, the courses and events in the other subject areas will be continued or restarted. Course bookings can be made by telephone, email and online from next week for courses starting on 15 June.
Until 2 June, attendance at the adult education centre is only possible by prior appointment. Information on access will be announced on www.vhs-chemnitz.de.
Telephone and e-mail contact for questions about courses and events is guaranteed.
The adult education centre must also implement the current hygiene standards to protect its participants and instructors. The course rooms will be reorganised and disinfection islands will be set up in the entrance areas. Furthermore, a distance of at least 1.5 metres must be maintained from other people on the premises of the adult education centre and face masks must be worn in public areas. Participants and visitors are also required to wash their hands regularly in the TIETZ sanitary facilities.
vhs.wissen live: launch of the digital science programme on 18 May
The VHS events on political and social topics were extremely popular until the coronavirus-related closure in March. Now they can also be attended digitally. "The topics are staying the same, only the format is changing," says Grit Bochmann.
On Monday, 18 May, VHS Chemnitz will launch "vhs.wissen live - the digital science programme" in cooperation with the adult education centres in the Erding and SüdOst districts of Munich. The online series offers lectures by renowned scientists and experts and is free of charge. Participants attend live and can take part in surveys and discussions in the chat. All you need is a computer or mobile device and internet access. You can register until the day before the respective lecture at the latest. On the day of the event, the access link will be sent to all registered participants by e-mail.
The series kicks off on 18 May with historian Dr Hans Woller. He will talk about the football legend Gerd Müller with the topic "How the big money came into football".
On 27 May, cultural historian and America expert Prof. Dr Ursula Prutsch will talk about the "Destruction of democracy under Jair Bolsonaro". The following day, two journalists from the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Leila Al-Serori and Bastian Obermayer, will reconstruct the "Ibiza Affair".
And on 2 June, London historian and specialist in the history of consumption, Prof. Dr Frank Trentmann, will provide historical insights and a look into the future on the topic of "Consumption in the wake of the coronavirus".
Further online lectures are in preparation and will be published on the VHS Chemnitz website.
