Autumn guided tour on 16 and 23 October, 2 p.m. each day
The leaves on the trees are turning colour - autumn is here. To mark the occasion, the zoo would like to take a look ahead. What do shorter days and falling temperatures mean for the animal and plant world? These and other questions will be explored. That's why the zoo is inviting visitors to a public guided tour on Wednesdays 16 and 23 October at 2 pm. The tour starts at the entrance to the zoo and lasts approximately one hour. Participation in the guided tour is free of charge, only the entrance fee has to be paid.

New residents in the South America enclosure
The South America enclosure at the zoo has had another addition since the end of September. Two young female capybara have arrived in Chemnitz from a zoo in the Netherlands. The reunion with the previous "Lord of the Grass" - as Capybara is translated - went without incident. The other animals in the "South America flat share", consisting of nandus and alpacas, have also welcomed the two new arrivals with open arms.
Incidentally, the two ladies are still nameless. The zoo is therefore calling for a vote on its Facebook page. There are three pairs of names to choose from.

Habitat for native species - recognised by NABU Saxony
The zoo is not only home to exotic animals from faraway lands, but also to a large number of native species. This is particularly pleasing as many of them are endangered or even threatened with extinction.
It is all the nicer when these animal species have the opportunity to breed in the zoo - like the barn swallows in some of the stables. This commitment was recently honoured by the NABU regional association in Saxony, which awarded the zoo the "Swallows are welcome here" plaque in recognition and thanks.

Opening hours in October
Animal park: 9 am to 5 pm, last admission 4 pm
Game enclosure: 8 am to 4 pm
