Application for European Capital of Culture 2025
Ten-person team presents our plans in Berlin
Ferenc Csák, head of the bid for the title of European Capital of Culture 2025, today presented the ten-person team that will present Chemnitz's bid to the jury in Berlin on 10 December.
The question has been around for several weeks: Which team will be able to represent the many facets of the city and at the same time bring extensive expert knowledge to the podium? Now the decision has been made - and after the team's first meetings, it is already clear that it was the right decision.
Together with the two dramaturges Kathrin Brune and René Schmidt from Chemnitz Theatres, the team is currently working on the presentation - a hard piece of work, but one that everyone is clearly enjoying, because each and every one of them has a big heart for Chemnitz.
Presenting for Chemnitz 2025 will be
Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig and Project Manager Ferenc Csák, who of course know the bid inside out, all the players, the city's special features and the programme framework.
Bernd Birkigt, the mayor of Oelsnitz/Erzgebirge, will be there on behalf of the cultural region, which will jointly develop a model for the revitalising interplay between town and country in the coming years.
The Managing Director of Staffbase GmbH, Dr Martin Böhringer, and his start-up not only stand for the business location but also for the cultural and creative industries in the region.
Sabrina Sadowska, ballet director of the Chemnitz Theatre, not only works with her international company in the field of urban high culture, but also creates an exciting exchange between dance cultures in Europe and around the world with the "Tanz | Moderne | Tanz" festival.
As a contemporary witness, former theatre director Hartwig Albiro contributes all his personal experiences of ruptures and upheavals after the Second World War and during the years of reunification.
Malte Ziegenhagen, captain of the Niners Chemnitz basketball team, brings the broad concept of culture, team spirit, fair play, fan culture and internationality into play.
Modern mobility and civic engagement are the playing fields of Maria Kreußlein, who works as a research assistant at the TU and whose micro-project "Bicycle Cinema" is representative of all those who want to get involved in the cultural life of the city with their small projects.
Julia Palarz is someone who supported the Capital of Culture Office as a student and was in contact with many micro-project organisers. She is also part of the team and is now in charge of a young democracy project in the Network for Culture and Youth Work, especially as she is very familiar with Europe.
And finally, Zeran Osman, a student of intercultural communication, is also travelling to Berlin. A year ago, her dedication to promoting coexistence and cultural exchange in Chemnitz brought her to the coffee table with Frank-Walter Steinmeier and now to the team.
The jury presentation in Berlin will again take place in alphabetical order, so that Chemnitz will be the first of all the German candidate cities to present: on 10 December at 9 a.m. in the Representation of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg to the Federal Government.
