Adult education centre launches series on biochar

In three events, interested parties will gain an insight into the theory and practice of charcoal production. The first event is on Thursday, 5 March, from 6.45 to 8.15 pm in course room 4.07 of the adult education centre. It's all about Terra Preta - all sorts of interesting facts about "black earth": Black earth was created by the indigenous peoples of South America over many generations. The lost knowledge of these peoples is slowly being recreated through experiments and research. The lecture will shed light on the history of Terra Preta, its composition and how it works. Individual processes for its production will also be presented. Participation is free of charge.

Terra Preta - The "black earth" of South America is considered the most fertile soil in the world. It can store very large amounts of water, can do without artificial fertilisers for many years and ensures a diverse density of soil microbes that can survive longer dry periods. Biochar, also known as biochar, is an important component of Terra Preta.
