The Kaßberg prison and its faces - exhibition opening and discussion with contemporary witnesses
Location: TIETZ, in front of course room 4.07
Admission: free
The exhibition reflects the history of the former Kaßberg prison and portrays the fates of former political prisoners. One of them was Wolfgang Lötzsch from Chemnitz. From December 1976 to October 1977, the Ministry for State Security imprisoned the exceptional sportsman in the remand centre on the Kaßberg in Chemnitz.
As part of the exhibition opening on 6 March 2020, a short film and subsequent discussion with contemporary witnesses will shed light on his moving biography.
In addition, the Lern- und Gedenkort Kaßberg-Gefängnis e. V. will provide information about the plans for the planned learning centre for democracy. Since 2011, the association has been campaigning to establish a place of learning and remembrance on the site of the former MfS remand centre, which was the central transit station for all political prisoners released from GDR prisons.
This event is a co-operation between the Lern- und Gedenkort Kaßberg-Gefängnis e. V. and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.

What health consequences can arise from a lack of handedness from infancy to adulthood? You will receive answers to these and other questions during the course.

Right to your own photo - information for parents
Location: TIETZ, course room 4.07

Children are a popular subject and photos are taken quickly. Photos of their own children, but also of other people's children, are just as quickly and readily published on social networks or on the notice boards of daycare centres or schools. What should parents know about publishing rights? What actually happens to photos of your own children that are shared online? Where do they end up? What exceptions restrict the so-called "right to one's own image"?
restrict? Who is authorised to decide? The event will shed light on these questions. It sensitises parents and educators to the careful handling of photos of children of all ages.
Tuesday, 17 March, 7 to 8.30 p.m.
A state of wax and honey - all kinds of interesting facts about bees

What happens in Ramadan? A look behind the scenes of the Muslim month of fasting
Venue: TIETZ, see VHS room advert
Admission: 7.40 euros
Once a year, Muslims celebrate the fasting month of Ramadan. In 2020, this will be from 23 April to 23 May. For non-Muslims, there is something mysterious about this time: How do you actually live Ramadan? What does fasting mean? Why do Muslims do it, what motivates them to do it? And what happens when they break their fast every evening after sunset?
The course will provide you with answers to these questions and an insight into a religious world that is lived in our midst, even here in Chemnitz.
