Adult education centre events in February 2020

Monday, 3 February, 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Confident writing and arithmetic - How can my child do it?

Location: TIETZ, course room 4.19
Admission: free

It seems that many children today are affected by reading and spelling disorders (LRS) or dyscalculia. But is that really the case? Many children and parents know that maths is a pain and the German exercise book is full of red error notes from the teacher. But do all these children have dyslexia or dyscalculia? If not, what is the cause and what can help? What do confident spellers and calculators do differently to creative spellers and creative calculators? In this course, you will learn how the NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) approach can be used to make reading, writing and arithmetic more successful (again) and thus ensure learning pleasure instead of learning frustration.

This event is a co-operation between SDB e. V., the Chemnitz Children's Rights Office, the FrECh parents' initiative and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.

Tuesday, 4 February, 7 to 9.15 p.m.
Café Philo: "The future will be bright"

Location: Kulturhaus Arthur, Hohe Straße 33
Admission: free

For us modern people, the future is perhaps the most important dimension of time. We live out of expectations, hopes and risk calculations, fuelled by a belief in progress. We hope that the future will somehow be better than the present. This distinguishes us from people who lived and still live in traditional societies - with the conviction that the world will remain the same. However, there are increasing signs that our optimism could be deceptive. The capitalist economic system is running into difficulties, poverty and conflicts are not being overcome and climate change is becoming a global threat. This has shaken our positive outlook and optimistic vision of the future. This is reason enough to address the topic at Café Philo and enter into dialogue with you.

Wednesday, 5 February, 6.45 to 8.15 p.m.
"Doll's houses" wanted: Creating and caring for butterfly meadows

Location: TIETZ, course room 4.07
Admission: free

More and more people are interested in insects, especially native butterflies and bees. This course will show what everyone can do on their own green spaces to turn meadows back into a habitat for many animal and plant species.

The Chemnitz regional group of the German Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation (BUND) has been actively protecting the native butterfly population since mid-2018. On a green space in Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf, it is creating a refuge for butterflies, moths and other insects. This example is used to show how butterfly meadows are created. In addition to theoretical basics, the course will also provide you with knowledge about concrete examples and possible courses of action.

This event is a cooperation between the BUND Regional Group Chemnitz and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.

It will be continued in spring 2020 with a site visit to the butterfly meadow in Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf and an exchange of experiences on creating insect-friendly green spaces.

Thursday, 6 February, 6.45 to 8.15 p.m.
Pain from the perspective of Chinese medicine - What can acupuncture do?

Venue: TIETZ, see VHS room advert
Admission: 6,80 EUR

What can acupuncture, as a treatment method of traditional Chinese medicine, do for pain? Can this alternative medical treatment method be used in addition to conventional medical therapy or can it be used as an independent method right from the start? The course takes a critical look at the possibilities and limitations of acupuncture and considers the human being as a unity of body and psyche.

Wednesday, 12 February, 2.30 to 4 p.m.
Power of attorney and co. What do I really need?

Location: Pro Seniore Residenz Chemnitz, Salzstraße 40
Admission: free

It can happen to anyone that they are suddenly no longer able to manage and decide their own affairs due to illness or an accident. Very few people think in good time - if they are still healthy - about who can make important decisions for them in this case. What medical interventions and treatments should be carried out if I am unresponsive? How can I ensure that my interests can be represented by a trusted person? What does my legal representative need in order to be able to act? What are the differences between a health care proxy, a care directive and a living will? The lecture will help you through this jungle of questions.

This event is a co-operation between the Pro Seniore Residenz Chemnitz and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.

Friday, 14 February, 2 to 4.15 p.m.

The aim is to understand the city and discuss possible ideas for future urban development.

On the road in Liguria between love myths and on shepherd's paths

Location: TIETZ, see VHS room advert
Admission: 6.60 euros

The focus is on Liguria, which meanders between the Riviera coast and the rugged Appennino mountain range. We will "hike" through a wide range of easy to challenging tours through the lecturer's home country. She will introduce you to an easy yet long hike through the well-known Cinque Terre. If you prefer a shorter hike, you can join her on the last stretch of the five villages, the "Via dell'Amore", where you will meet many famous lovers (including Tristan and Isolde or Cupid and Psyche). She will introduce you to a via ferrata for advanced climbers in the Antola Nature Park. The lecture will be rounded off with interesting facts about pilgrimage climbs in the best Romantic period and some excursions on partisan paths (1945).
