A look behind the facades of the district court
On Thursday, 10 October, 7 to 8.30 p.m., interested parties can gain an insight into the work of the district court in a course at the adult education centre. Marika Lang, press officer of the Chemnitz Regional Court and lecturer, will give a brief overview of the various jurisdictions and their organisation and jurisdiction. The focus will be on the area of criminal law, as this generates the most interest from the press and public. The course will take place in the TIETZ event room. Participation is free of charge.
The course is intended to prepare participants for attending a criminal trial as a spectator. Therefore, the most important processes from the preliminary investigation to the start of the main trial are outlined first. Then the work of the professional judges and lay assessors is explained until the judgement is reached. The date for attending a criminal trial will be agreed with the participants on the day of the course.
The independent administration of justice is a valuable asset of democracy. Courts and judges serve to implement the law. In Germany, there are different types of courts and different instances, i.e. hierarchical levels of jurisdiction.
This event is a co-operation between the Chemnitz Regional Court and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
