On Sunday, 15 September, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors can gain an insight into Chemnitz 291 million years ago on Geotope Day at the "Window into the Earth's History" at Glockenstraße 16 in Chemnitz. Admission is free. Registration is not required.

The excavation at the Museum of Natural History's "Window into Earth History" invites visitors to enter into a dialogue with the researchers. Visitors will gain an insight into this year's excavation results and new finds. During a live excavation and a show preparation, young and old researchers can look over the shoulders of the scientists as they work. Inquisitive young researchers can try their hand as excavation assistants in a simulated excavation situation for children.

On 15 September, visitors throughout Germany will be able to gain an insight into the history of the earth, including the origin and development of life on earth, at outstanding geotopes. The Geotope Day is an initiative of the German Geological Society - Geologische Vereinigung e. V. On this day, geotopes such as quarries, rocks or mineral sites, historic mines and many other excursion destinations can be explored with experts.

The full programme can be viewed at www.tag-des-geotops.de.

The "Window into the Earth's History" project is subsidised by the European Social Fund.
