40 years of Insektarium in Chemnitz
Birthday party at the Museum of Natural History with a family afternoon of beekeeping
On Saturday, 15 June, from 10 am to 4 pm, the Museum für Naturkunde is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Insectarium in Chemnitz. Children and young people up to the age of 18 have free admission to the museum, adults pay 4 euros, reduced admission is 2.50 euros. The creative activities in the museum education centre are free of charge for children and adults on the occasion of the birthday party.
The day's activities are particularly aimed at families with children, who can experience the world of the hidden, the astonishing and the unusual up close with the museum staff. From the walking leaf to the tarantula, (almost) everything can be picked up and marvelled at. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., children can also get active themselves in the museum's educational programme, for example by making a seed ball, a colourful scratch painting or a giant spider, which will even become part of the current exhibition. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., everything will revolve around bees and honey under the motto "Mixed among the people - life in the bee colony". How many bees does a colony harbour? How many flowers does a bee pollinate per day? How many flowers does it take to make a jar of honey? How do bees communicate with each other? And what's the story behind "bee mortality"? So many questions! Beekeeper Heike Janthur from Chemnitz will answer them all.
