Ebersdorf ponds are now being drained for compensation and replacement measures
In connection with the reconstruction of Dresdner Platz, the restoration of two forest ponds in Ebersdorfer Forst is planned for the autumn as an ecological replacement measure. The ponds will be drained this week for this purpose.This draining will create the technological prerequisites for the project, which has been agreed with the nature conservation authorities. Naturally, protected animals will be relocated to a third nearby pond when the two ponds are drained. This will be monitored by an independent ecological construction supervision organisation. When renaturalising the ponds, nature conservation issues must also be taken into account and the intervention in the existing environment must be carried out as carefully as possible. The plan is to desilt the ponds, secure and restore the dams and the embrasure to protect the structures.
The bottom outlet of both bodies of water and their pond monk - as experts refer to the adjustable outlet structure of a pond - are also to be renewed. At the same time, the Parks Department wants to create a near-natural watercourse structure for the inlet, overflow, connecting and outlet ditches by planting a dam and carrying out other work. A public tender is currently underway for these services. Construction is scheduled to start at the beginning of November this year.
The Dresden planning office eibs is planning this project and the local planning office Rentsch und Tschersich will be supervising the construction work. The costs of the preparatory services are around 20,000 euros; the concrete total costs from the tender for the entire project are not yet available.
