Due to a burst water pipe, Zwickauer Straße at house number 451 between Nestlerstraße and Rosenweg has been fully closed since Sunday morning. As the entire width of Zwickauer Straße is undermined, the operator of the drinking water network inetz expects the repair work to continue until 24 April, as the road needs to be fundamentally repaired.
The diversion for private traffic in both directions is via Jagdschänkenstraße, Neefestraße and Hohensteiner Straße. Due to the height restriction on the Jagdschänkenstraße bridge, lorry traffic will be diverted via Neefestraße, Kappler Drehe and Zwickauer Straße.
On Sunday, inetz employees were working to flush the network, as the burst pipe had caused considerable amounts of water to move in the wider area and mobilise any mineral or metallic deposits in the pipes. This leads to the typical colouring (usually rusty brown, yellowish). This colouration is microbiologically harmless and can be flushed out of the network relatively quickly. However, affected customers should wait until the water is clear again before using it as drinking water.
The cause of the pipe damage is not yet known.
