Since September 2023, the Chemnitz City Mission has been offering a support service for men and men who are affected by domestic violence in the form of the men's protection centre. The term refers not only to violence between (spouses) partners, but also between parents, children or between siblings.
The help is aimed at adult men who are experiencing physical, psychological, sexualised or economic violence and therefore need an anonymous shelter. A detailed interview takes place before admission. Since the start of the programme, men between the ages of 18 and 82 have been accompanied. Depending on the situation, the length of stay ranges from a few weeks to several months. There are two anonymous shelters with a total of three places available.
places in total. Fathers with children can also be accommodated. In addition to safe accommodation, those affected receive individual counselling and support. The aim is to stabilise the current situation, develop new options for action and work out a sustainable perspective for the future. Additional help can also be arranged, such as psychological counselling, support from a trauma outpatient clinic or preparation for a stay in hospital.
People at acute risk of suicide, with severe addiction or with an acute mental illness requiring treatment cannot be admitted. Perpetrators of domestic violence cannot be admitted either.
