Chemnitz is a child-friendly and therefore family-friendly city. About 15,000 places in crèches, playschools and nurseries cover the actual demand. 130 children's facilities with the most varied orientations ensure that work and family can be combined without a problem: Selected facilities arrange opening times until 8 pm and on Saturdays in accordance with the personal circumstances parents. Whilst mum and dad work, the little ones are in the best hands.

The school landscape currently consists of 40 primary schools, 15 secondary schools and seven grammar schools with different orientations. Furthermore, there are also schools in Chemnitz of independent institutions such as Waldorf and Montessori.
