At the time of its construction (1928-1935) the city swimming pool was regarded as the best and largest indoor swimming pool in Europe. The building was designed by the city building officer Fred Otto.



The overall design corresponded to the Bauhaus ideas, amongst others, with a 50-metre and 25-metre swimming pool, a sauna, bowling place, billiards room, various fitness facilities and a restaurant.
