The 7.1m-high bronze bust of the philosopher Karl Marx is the
most famous landmark of the city of Chemnitz. The sculpture on
a mount lined with Ukrainian granite was created in 1971 by the
Russian sculptor Lew Kerbel and is situated in the city centre
on Brückenstrasse near the crossing to the Strasse der Nationen.
On the wall of the building located behind the Karl Marx Monument
the writing "workers of the world unite!" can be seen
from the communist manifest in the four languages of German, English,
French and Russian.
