The guildhall is a vividly structured building complex built in 1969-74 which is used to host cultural events, fairs and exhibitions, congresses and conferences. It is located in the centre of the city of Chemnitz in the Stadthallenpark next to the Red Tower.

A striking attention-grabbing structure in the city is the Hotel Mercure next to the guildhall. The 93 m-high hotel is among the dominant structures in the city.
