The city of Tampere is situated in the south of Finland and is
one of the most important industrial cities of the North. After
the capital city Helsinki, Tampere is the second-largest city
in Finland with 183,000 inhabitants.
Today, Tampere is a modern metropolis where, amongst others, high
technology is at home. Furthermore, the city is a vibrant centre
of Southern Finland with two theatres and numerous museums and
galleries. Tampere is situated between two large lakes and is
surrounded by vast forests. The lively city and the magnificent
surroundings complement each other very well and offer something
for everyone.
The parallels in the citys' historical development make a good
starting point for a town twinning, as the textile industry and
the machine construction have also shaped the city of Tampere
in the past few decades.
