Presents contemporary German art from 1945 to the present as well as international works. The gallery represents some of Saxony´s most important artists, and promotes them by publishing catalogues and original print collections. Another facet of its activity is mediating fees and offers.
Since 1990 Galerie Oben has been taking part at four of Europe´s most important international art fairs: ART Basel, ART Cologne, ART Madrid and ART Frankfurt.

The gallery and its art association primarily promote artists who have difficulty attracting public attention. Here they are given the possibility of exhibiting their works or taking part in courses and open-air events, affording them good exposure.
Organization of exhibitions by painters, graphic artists and sculptors is one increasing degree of the gallery´s activity. It is the only organization of its kind in the region and publishes a journal also entitled "The Gallery" under the auspices of the Lantern Art Association.

The gallery´s principal offering constists of paintings, sculptures, art book and design with focus primarily on co-operation with young artists, students and recent graduates. Thus, it provides a place for artists to display their work from other regions as well as Saxony. One of Chemnitz´s newer galleries featuring mainly Saxon artists. Eclectic in nature, the Borssenanger presents works by a variety of artists of different ages, career backgrounds, temperaments, character and style. It negotiates fees and purchases, arranges for the organization of on-loan exhibitions and art leasing. The gallery also arranges contacts with artists.
